THE ESSENCE OF FORGIVENESS

INTRODUCTION
There are so many uncertainties happening in the world today, and sometimes people find it hard to mend their cracks and move on to embrace what life may bring in the future.
Many say life is unfair, others say it is ironical, and with all these definitions of life, many people are convinced that holding on to old injuries hurts the defaulter, not realizing how much they have enslaved themselves.
Forgiveness may sound simple, but what is it truly about?
Many mistake it for returning to the source of hurt as a way of proving it, and because of this, a lot of people choose not to forgive so that they do not relive their pain.
Forgiveness is a huge task, and it requires a conscious and deep mind. It is more spiritual than what we see in the physical. It is letting go of hurt and freeing the heart from bitterness. It means forgetting the past and living in the present.
Forgiveness does not mean going back to what hurt you, but forgetting the scars and learning without blame. This is why many people find it difficult to forgive one another.
ORIGIN OF FORGIVENESS
Forgiveness is not a new concept. It already existed according to the book of Genesis in the Old Testament, where God destroyed the earth with a flood because of man’s sinful nature in the time of Noah. He later felt compassion and forgave mankind by making a covenant symbolized by the rainbow. He also forgave during the many wars recorded in the Bible. Even when the Israelites were stubborn, He forgave them during their suffering and slavery under other nations.
In His infinite love, God made an unbreakable covenant of forgiveness toward mankind through the birth, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Forgiveness comes with a price; one that was paid once and for all. It is a gift given to those who hurt us, or to situations that have made life unbearable for us.
WHEN TO FORGIVE
Many people ask, “When should I forgive?” Forgiveness has no set time or moment. It is something that should be done whether you feel ready or not, because delaying it can be as dangerous as being caught between fire and flame. You do not forgive only when it is convenient; you forgive so that your heart can heal and your mind can find peace. You do not have to wait for an apology, forgiveness is your choice, while repentance is theirs.
In one sentence, forgiveness is unlimited.
Biblically, Jesus Christ urges us to forgive those who offend us seventy-seven times. But how is it possible for someone to offend that many times? This means forgiveness is immeasurable, timeless, and continuous.
THE ESSENCE OF FORGIVENESS
The essence of forgiveness is to maintain peace and harmony in the midst of chaos and uncertainty. It helps us understand why we must free ourselves from grief and guilt.
Forgiveness closes the door to depression and unnecessary thoughts that destroy one’s mental health.
Moreover, forgiveness creates a beautiful atmosphere around us. It is something God created and blessed humanity with.
The Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6:9 says, “Forgive our sins as we forgive those who offend us.” This verse shows the strength of forgiveness…, it is like a golden rule: when we forgive others, we also receive forgiveness from God.
CONCLUSION
Forgiveness is the greatest gift the world needs for peace and harmony. If everyone learns to forgive one another, people will live in trust, unbroken joy, and love that fills the air.
