HIS BEAUTY
By Chidimma Placid Nwaka
He created all things beautifully,
Each with a thought too great to measure.
But man, in folly, turned against Him,
Chasing pleasures, yielding to ill desires.
Men kill fellow men just to rise,
Love now traded like a transaction,
Sex stripped of honor,
And violence more savage than a lion’s heart.
The earth burns hotter than Mercury,
Darker than Pluto,
Stranger with each passing day
As overwhelming things unfold.
I often wonder how He feels up there.
If I were Him,
Perhaps I’d have set the earth ablaze a thousand times,
Or turned my back and rained plagues upon men.
Yet He is too merciful,
Too loving to take even a strand of hair
From those who repent,
Who lament in grief and plead for mercy.
His unending love, His remarkable power,
Keeps His beauty ever new.
I see the chaos, I dwell in my anger,
But He thinks beyond us all,
Not working by our will
But by His.
